Notes:

• Mega Millions was originally known as The Big Game.  Tickets first went on sale on August 31, 1996, and the first drawing was held on Friday, September 6, 1996.  Drawings were initially once per week on Fridays, until the first Tuesday drawing, which took place on February 10, 1998.  On May 17, 2002, The Big Game underwent many changes, including an increased number pool, a larger jackpot, and other changes, and the name of the game was changed to "Mega Millions".
• The dates shown are the dates tickets went on sale in the state, not the date of the first drawing.
• USA Mega compiled the list of game start dates through an exhaustive search of web resources, contacts with the state lotteries, and research of old news stories.  To the best of our knowledge it is correct.  If you have certain knowledge that any of the above information is incorrect, please contact us and indicate the source of your information.  We will be pleased to update this information if it is not precisely correct.
